Your privacy is our priority. Learn how we protect your data.
🔒 Privacy First Approach
Your data stays on your device. Lucid Reader is designed with privacy at its core. We believe your reading habits and personal information should remain private and under your control.
Information We Collect
Data Stored Locally
Lucid Reader stores the following information locally on your device:
RSS Feed URLs: The feeds you've subscribed to
Reading Preferences: Theme settings, font sizes, and app configurations
Bookmarked Articles: Articles you've saved for later reading
OpenAI API Key: If you choose to use AI features, your API key is stored securely on your device
App Usage Data: Basic app functionality data to improve your experience
Data We Don't Collect
We explicitly do NOT collect:
Personal identification information
Reading habits or article consumption patterns
Location data
Contact information
Social media profiles or connections
Device identifiers for tracking purposes
How We Use Your Information
Since all your data stays on your device, we use information solely to:
Provide App Functionality: Display your feeds, apply your preferences, and maintain your bookmarks
Generate AI Summaries: If you provide an OpenAI API key, it's used only to communicate with OpenAI's servers for article summarization
Improve User Experience: Remember your settings and preferences
Sync Across Devices: If you use iCloud, your data may sync between your Apple devices through Apple's secure infrastructure
Third-Party Services
OpenAI Integration
When you use AI summary features:
Your OpenAI API key is stored only on your device
Article content is sent to OpenAI only when you request a summary
We don't store or have access to the content sent to OpenAI
OpenAI's privacy policy applies to data sent to their servers
RSS Feed Sources
When fetching RSS feeds:
Your device directly contacts RSS feed sources
We don't proxy or monitor these requests
Feed sources may have their own privacy policies
Data Security
We implement several security measures:
Local Storage: All personal data remains on your device
Secure API Key Storage: OpenAI API keys are stored in your device's secure keychain
No Server Storage: We don't maintain servers that store your personal information
Encrypted Communications: All network requests use HTTPS encryption
Apple Security Standards: We follow Apple's security guidelines for iOS and macOS apps
Your Rights and Controls
You have complete control over your data:
Data Access: All your data is accessible within the app settings
Data Deletion: You can delete feeds, bookmarks, and settings at any time
API Key Management: Add or remove your OpenAI API key as needed
App Removal: Uninstalling the app removes all associated data from your device
iCloud Control: You can enable or disable iCloud sync in your device settings
Children's Privacy
Lucid Reader is designed for general audiences and doesn't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Since all data is stored locally on the device, parents maintain full control over their children's data.
